Botanic Bodies Opens at Bushwick Gallery Featuring New Works by Gina Keatley and Contemporary Artists Exploring Nature, Transformation, and Organic Form

Brooklyn Contemporary Art Exhibition Runs May 14-21, 2026.

Brooklyn, NY, USA – Bushwick Gallery presents Botanic Bodies, a contemporary group exhibition exploring organic elegance, natural forms, transformation, and the evolving relationship between humanity and the natural world. On view from May 14 through May 21, 2026, the exhibition features new works by Gina Keatley alongside artists Aubrey Maurer, Bridget Errante, Audrey Flatt, Ruby Howell, Yael Dresdner, Sophie McCarthy, Lora Robertson, Emily Smith, and Koetsu Kakinuma.

Opening with a public reception on Thursday, May 14 from 6 PM to 8 PM, Botanic Bodies transforms Bushwick Gallery into an immersive environment where flowers, landscapes, bodies, and atmospheric abstraction become vehicles for memory, intimacy, ritual, vulnerability, and renewal.

At the center of the exhibition is Brooklyn based contemporary abstract artist Gina Keatley, founder of Bushwick Gallery and creator of the Untamed Moderns series. Known for her layered monochromatic abstractions, Keatley presents new works examining erosion, accumulation, and transformation through scraped textures, mineral tones, rain like surfaces, and luminous passages of ochre and black. The works continue Keatley’s ongoing exploration of material presence, environmental influence, and the emotional residue of global travel and lived experience.

“Nature within this exhibition is never passive,” says Keatley. “The works explore growth, instability, memory, decay, intimacy, and reinvention. Organic form becomes a reflection of the human condition itself.”

Guest curated by Vedika Chauhan and Abigail Prakarsa, Botanic Bodies brings together artists whose practices span photography, sculpture, painting, ceramics, and mixed media. Across the exhibition, viewers encounter psychologically charged landscapes, intimate photographic works, botanical symbolism, feminist reinterpretations of ritual, and dreamlike reflections on memory and fantasy.

Highlights include Bridget Errante’s emotionally vulnerable photographic works Fleur Noire #1 and Fleur Noire #2, Audrey Flatt’s immersive oil pastel triptych Desire Lines, Ruby Howell’s psychologically charged landscape The Beeches, Yael Dresdner’s meditative oil painting Float #9, and Lora Robertson’s Mother Wolf, which explores instinct, femininity, and transformation through powerful organic imagery. Koetsu Kakinuma’s luminous watercolor Hamish and Dahlia reflects on fantasy and memory, while Emily Smith’s Eternal Life draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian burial rituals and preserved floral symbolism. Sophie McCarthy and Aubrey Maurer contribute works that further blur the boundaries between the body, environment, and emotional experience.

The exhibition reflects Bushwick Gallery’s commitment to contemporary artists whose work pushes beyond aesthetic beauty into deeper emotional and conceptual territory. Through themes of organic growth, fragility, femininity, memory, and transformation, Botanic Bodies presents nature not as scenery, but as a living system connected to identity, experience, and emotional evolution.

Bushwick Gallery, located in the heart of Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood, continues to establish itself as a destination for contemporary art exhibitions focused on ambitious curatorial programming and artist centered collaboration. Founded by Gina Keatley, the gallery supports emerging and established artists through exhibitions, studio initiatives, and cultural programming designed to foster experimentation and visibility within the contemporary art world.
