HOUSTON, Texas – Tashiba Williams, NP-C, founder of ADA Family Health Clinic, is helping patients across Texas and Louisiana avoid life-altering amputations through an innovative mobile wound care practice that delivers specialized treatment directly to patients in their homes and communities.
Since launching ADA Family Health Clinic, Williams has treated more than 343 patients across both states. Among them are individuals who had previously been told that amputation was a likely or inevitable outcome. Through consistent, early, and aggressive wound care delivered at home, several of those patients were able to preserve their limbs.
“Too often, patients reach the point of amputation simply because they didn’t receive specialized wound care early enough,” said Williams. “My goal is to meet patients where they are, treat wounds aggressively and early, and give them a chance to heal before limb loss becomes the only option.”
Addressing a Growing National Crisis
Chronic wounds affect more than 6 million Americans annually and cost the healthcare system tens of billions of dollars each year. Roughly 130,000 lower limb amputations are performed in the United States each year, the majority of which are diabetes-related and many of which are preventable with earlier intervention.
The populations most at risk, elderly patients, those managing diabetes and vascular disease, and individuals in underserved communities, are also the populations least well-served by the conventional clinic-based model of care. Transportation barriers, limited specialist access, and inconsistent follow-up care create conditions in which wounds are routinely undertreated until they become emergencies.
ADA Family Health Clinic was built to interrupt that cycle. By bringing specialized wound care directly to patients, Williams removes the logistical barriers that most commonly cause treatment to stall, enabling more frequent monitoring, earlier intervention, and the kind of treatment continuity that complex wound management requires.
