Vertical Cold Storage Acquires Second Cold Storage Facility in Dothan, AL

Vertical Cold Storage, an owner and operator of temperature-controlled distribution centers sponsored by investment firm Platform Ventures, has acquired a refrigerated warehouse located in Dothan, AL from Dothan Warehouse. The acquisition represents Vertical Cold Storage’s 13th facility and its second location in Dothan.

The refrigerated facility features temperatures ranging from 34° to 50°F and is rail-served by CSX. Dothan, AL sits in the heart of the U.S. peanut production region, and the site has a strong history of successfully supporting regional peanut shelling operations.

“We’re excited to continue to expand upon the strong, long-term relationships that Dothan Warehouse has established with local peanut customers,” said Jim Henderson, Chief Commercial Officer of Vertical Cold Storage. “Our nearby freezer facility primarily supports local poultry producers, where we offer blast freezing, freezer storage, and export services. Acquiring the refrigerated warehouse shows our commitment to support additional food producers in the region.”

Vertical Cold Storage acquired the Dothan freezer warehouse from Dothan Warehouse in August 2024, converting the site to the company’s standard warehouse management system and integrating it into the company’s national network.

“We had a very positive experience with Vertical Cold Storage on the sale of our frozen distribution center, and I am pleased to transition the refrigerated warehouse to the same team,” said Turner Jones, President of Dothan Warehouse. “Vertical Cold is easy to work with, understands the needs of producers in this region, values our long-term relationships, and is committed to investing in the infrastructure that will keep Dothan growing as a food logistics hub.”

“As we bring this facility into our network, we will deploy our warehouse management technology, safety, and food quality programs to ensure customers experience the same high standards they see at every Vertical Cold location,” Henderson said.
